The Farm.
Swimming Pool
Our lap pool is open for guest use all year round.
The pool is 20 meters in length with a consistent depth of 1.2 meters throughout, and it does not have a shallow end. Please be advised that children must be supervised at all times and are not permitted in the pool area without an accompanying adult. As there is no lifeguard on duty, the safety of children is the sole responsibility of their guardians.
River
With two and a half kilometres of river meandering along the property, there are natural walking trails and no end of secluded hideaways to discover.
The river dries out to a wide, sandy riverbed over summer and starts to refill with the autumn rains, flowing strongly through winter and spring.
The river is fenced and accessible to guests through our farm gate.
Farm Animals
Bringing along a pair of gumboots is a good idea if you would like to have a taste of all aspects of farm life.
We have some lovely animals making Lavendale their home depending on the time of year, including alpacas, sheep, geese, chickens, turkeys, a goat, an emu and a horse. We also have two pet cavoodles, Bailey and Willow, who love exploring the farm and saying hello to our guests.
Most of our animals are quite used to people and will come up to you. Although we don’t have scheduled farm activities, you have the opportunity to get up close and observe all of the usual rhythms of their care, such as feeding our animals at dinner time. Please enquire directly if you would like more information about which animals will be about during your stay.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate additional pets due to some of our animals being free range.
Please note, as this is a working farm, there are at times the usual sounds of country life such as farm equipment operating, dogs barking or animals calling. For the vast majority of time, you will experience a profoundly serene environment.
Environmental Mindfulness
It is important to us that we touch the land lightly and minimise damage to the natural ecosystem. As the current caretakers of this precious land, we kindly ask our guests to closely observe the below guidelines.
We rely mostly on rainwater, so we ask that you are mindful of water consumption.
Please ensure that no chemicals are deposited down the drains. The property has septic systems which rely on friendly bacteria and the use of chemical products damages the balance of the systems. We supply alternatives; please don’t hesitate to enquire if you need assistance.
All flora and fauna are protected.
Acknowledgement of Country
Lavendale Country Retreat acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and work, the Ballardong People of the Noongar Nation. We honour their deep connection to land, waters and culture across York and the wider Wheatbelt region. With respect and gratitude, we recognise the wisdom and care passed down through generations, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
